Abstract

Specialises the view of society to that of an information-processing system. Central to this view is dividing the information into three classes, and the first consequence of this classification is the description of the related activities as forming two cycles, an economic cycle (daily life) and a transformation cycle (formation of belief). The information-processing individual is described in terms of a model, which introduces the central concept of identity and the associated structure of the process, and the interaction is extended to include the mediation by information technology. The relevance of work by R. Fletcher on the growth of settlements is discussed.
