Abstract

In the last ten years several peace agreements have been signed. At first glance this development seems positive. However, if we analyse the successfulness of the peace-building processes, the picture becomes less rosy. Some peace processes, like those in Northern Ireland and South Africa, seem to have travelled the difficult road to sustainable peace. Others, like those in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Rwanda, the Middle East and Angola, seem, at best, to have stopped the fighting for a time.
