Abstract
Primary breast cancer uncommonly arises in the lower inner quadrant (LIQ). However breast conservation in this location is a challenge and usually requires the use of a level 2 oncoplastic procedure to prevent significant deformity and a poor outcome for the patient. The LIQ-‘V mammoplasty’ offers a technical solution to most cancers in the lower inner breast which would otherwise require a Wise pattern reduction mammoplasty or else a mastectomy.
This chapter explains the indications for and critical steps involved in selecting and assessing patients with cancer of the LIQ of the breast. It then takes the reader through the operative details stepwise, aided by use of both intraoperative photographs and drawings so that any surgeon with basic technical knowledge can grasp the essential aspects of this procedure and its variations. Outcomes, including the management of complications, are also dealt with drawing on the authors’ experience and of published literature on this topic.
