Abstract
The most important thing to know about this volume is that it was originally conceived by Lisa Jardine, initially organized by her, yet left unfinished by her death. Although the contributors and I have worked hard to realize her vision, everyone would agree Lisa would have improved the resulting publication in nearly every way. My involvement first began as a co-editor in the Summer of 2015, little over a year after Lisa had been Visiting Distinguished Professor at the California Institute of Technology, where I was at the time an assistant professor of philosophy. Lisa’s visit, though short, lasting only 10 weeks, was a memorable one for my colleagues and me, overlapping, as it did, with moments of high academic drama and intrigue. Lisa was one of the bright spots for us during that period.
