Abstract
The main disciplines of business are introduced: strategy; marketing; finance; product and service delivery; and staffing. These disciplines are evaluated from a social and economic point of view. The influences of technology and the new and evolving organisation forms are noted, and the work opportunities and constraints that are delivered as the result. This chapter also refers to the need to deliver human and social value as a condition of effective business.
