Abstract
Transgender and gender-diverse youth may experience significant mental health symptoms, which may require treatment in acute settings. It is critical that inpatient, partial hospital, and intensive outpatient treatment settings are affirming and supportive, rather than sources of ongoing trauma. This chapter details key principles for a safe and affirming hospital environment and describes concrete strategies for training clinical teams and providing developmentally appropriate care for gender-diverse youth.
