Abstract
The discussion on actuated control up to this point has been implicitly focusing on intersections with low-speed approaches. This chapter begins with a broad picture by combining factors such as approach speed, controller detection memory, and detector size to present a matrix of applications of actuated control. Each cell of the matrix represents a particular application based on a combination of the above factors, some of which have been introduced in the previous chapter while others will be elaborated in this chapter. In particular, dilemma zone problem is typical to high-speed approaches, solutions to which based on various schemes will be addressed in this chapter.
