Modelling of the Suitability of Lands to the Agrarian Use and Their Resistance to Negative Processes

Landscape Modelling and Decision Support

Abstract

The authors have developed approaches for modelling the suitability of landscapes for agricultural use and their resistance to water erosion, pollution with heavy metals and acidification. The basis for modelling the suitability of landscapes for agricultural use is the methodology of multi-parameter analysis of the quality of complex objects. The basis for modelling of soil resistance to water erosion is based on empirical dependencies, which make it possible to determine the potential leaching of soil, both by rainfall and by melt runoff. The basis for modelling soil resistance to heavy metal pollution and acidification is the relationship between the geochemical potential of the soil, and their ability to accumulate chemicals coming from man-made sources.
