Abstract
In the conclusion, I foreground questions of method, elucidating the process through which the book came together and discussing the philosophy underpinning my approach. Through discussions of the work of Stanley Cavell and cinephilia theorists like Christian Keathley, my approach that begins with specific details in specific films and works describe a “bottom up” outward from there. Such an approach, I suggest, can be a useful tool for circumventing habituated responses and ways of thinking and for refreshing our understanding of apparently critically exhausted works.
