Abstract

The goal of this chapter is to assist the cardiac care of a patient undergoing orthopedic surgery. The preoperative cardiac evaluation includes assessing the risk of the orthopedic procedure and determining the appropriate interventions to minimize that risk. This chapter discusses commonly encountered cardiac conditions and their management in the perioperative setting. A discussion of the more commonly encountered cardiac complications of orthopedic surgery is also included.
