Abstract
Perennial floating-leaved herb rooted in the bottom with stems 0.1–1 m long. All simple flat leaves alternating, with sheathing inflated bases. Unbranched inflorescence has usually 2 male and 2–4 female heads. The flowers are small, sessile. A drupe-like fruit has a persistent style.
