Abstract

Positive Psychotherapy (PPT after Peseschkian) integrates psychodynamic, humanistic, and cognitive-behavioral thought into a well-structured conceptual framework in which all concepts are formulated as capacities that unfold in a lifetime process of differentiation. From the perspective of the therapeutic understanding, Positive Psychotherapy is closer to the psychodynamic schools; in terms of its structured intervention, it is closer to the cognitive-behavioral schools. The Positive Psychotherapy perspective emphasizes the importance of human resources and capabilities in the psychotherapeutic intervention and underlines the importance of understanding the meaning of symptoms for solving them. In its emphasis on culture, in both theoretical reasoning and practical intervention, Positive Psychotherapy goes beyond pre-existing psychotherapeutic schools.
