Abstract

Pacemakers provide man-made escape rhythms when a patient’s own electrical conduction in the heart fails. Pacemaker spikes of variable sizes can initiate atrial or ventricular depolarization. Timely pacemaker firing and successful initiation of the depolarization arc the sensing and capture functions to be assessed whenever a pacemaker is detected in an EKG.
