Abstract

This commentary shows how Lacan’s precise articulation between love and desire, as well as his understanding of transference in terms of fiction, permits him to provide an unprecedented reading of the last scene of the Symposium, making of Alcibiades an analysand unaware of his own desire, and of Socrates’s interpretation of Alcibiades’ speech, the first analytic intervention in history.
