Abstract
Considering the severe conditions for reducing the chemical pollution caused by the vehicles imposed by regulations and rules worldwide, the liquefied petroleum gas becomes an attractive alternative fuel from an ecological and economical point of view. At present, there is almost no car manufacturer that does not include in the fabrication scheme spark ignition engines that use LPG as an alternative source of energy knowing the benefits of the GPL in terms of reducing pollutant emissions.
In the first part of the paper, using the AMESim simulation tool, for a middle - class vehicle, equipped with spark-ignition engine that uses as energy sources gasoline and LPG, the pollutant emissions of CO, HC and NOx were simulated. The simulation using the WLTC test cycle, was performed for both energy sources. Also using the simulation, the CO2 was determined, based on which can be drawn conclusions regarding the fuel consumption.
The second part of the paper contains a comparative analysis between the simulated and measured values regarding the pollutant emissions and fuel consumption. The measured values, for the same vehicle, were obtained on the dynamometer using the WLTC test cycle.
