Abstract
This chapter aims to motivate the topics of the book. A general discussion about fifth generation (5G) wireless systems and its requirements is presented first. That is useful to put in evidence that the main objective of the book is related to modern wireless transceiver design (rather than on system design). From that perspective, the basic blocks (front-end, baseband processing, and analog-to-digital conversion) of a generic transceiver and its design parameters are discussed. The main contributions of the book are addressed to study the impact of RF impairments in 5G transceiver designs and also to introduce successful estimation and compensation techniques.
