Abstract
This chapter discusses cultural considerations for assessment within context of the APA’s shift from client in context to the current ecological approach. This ecological approach requires an appraisal of the intersectionality with a client’s identity and context across systems (based on Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems model). Thus, the author discusses the assessment process beginning with the initial contact, and walking through elements of identity (language and culture) and context across the systems (i.e., educational, occupational, familial). Additionally, the author examines domain specific issues, including a discussion about the practice considerations related to the use of translators and translated measures.
