Behavioral Health Service Delivery with Immigrants

  • Chapter
  • First Online:
Handbook of Cultural Factors in Behavioral Health

Abstract

Immigrant individuals are at a high risk for experiencing stressful events throughout the migration process; however, there are limited resources available to provide mental health services to this community. Our goals for this chapter are threefold: (1) to identify the barriers to the delivery of mental health services for immigrants, (2) to discuss the current sociopolitical context of immigrant populations in the USA, and (3) to review the considerations and the guidelines that have been developed to address the needs of the immigrant population in clinical settings. We hope that this information can be used in the day-to-day of mental health providers to deliver culturally responsive services to immigrant communities.
