Abstract
I love Einstein for his contribution to science and humanity. The story of general theory of relativity is an epic in itself. More so, on the lines of Ramayana and Mahabharata; with as many twists and turns. Conceivably, great ideas mean greater resistance and pressure from all sides. I get goosebumps when I read about Einstein’s’ contribution to modern day life. It does not stop at just E = mc2. His contributions are not limited to GPS, smart phones, and the numerous applications of the laser. I doubt if the modern-day physicians really have any appreciation for his contributions to medicine. All his revolutionary ideas were as a result of intense competition among his peers. An example of which was the 8 year long struggle to come up with the mathematical equation to support his theory that space is indeed curved. He had a tough competitor in the German mathematician David Hilbert. Though Hilbert also published his field equations in support of general relativity almost at the same time as Einstein, there was no animosity between these two individuals and Hilbert acknowledged the fact that it was Einstein’s theory. This is a result of great minds. Einstein’s theories set a new trend and in fact questioned 250-year-old Sir, Isaac Newton’s theory on gravity. It revolutionized physics at all levels. Biology has also had its share of new ideas and I am going to talk about one such thing and how it is slowly changing the fundamental concept of how the cell functions. I am careful in using the word ‘SLOWLY’ as even scientists have not realized the concept in its entirety. As I said earlier, ignorance is the greatest barricade for progress.
