Effect of a Constant Drift in the Reptation Dynamics of Entangled Polymers

Abstract

In this work, we explore a modified reptation theory for entangled polymers which includes an additional relaxation mechanism that allows the chain to escape the tube: a constant drift velocity along the primitive path. It is shown that, if the drift is sufficiently small, the Gaussian hypothesis of the tube theory is respected and, if it is larger than a molecular weight-dependent threshold, it can dominate the dynamics at long times, yielding interesting new behaviour.
