Abstract

Outpatient unicompartmental knee arthroplasty is a commonly performed procedure that possesses significant potential to result in excellent patient outcomes and high patient satisfaction. Prior to launching an outpatient joint replacement program, multiple elements must be addressed, including: patient selection, patient safety, preoperative education, unique elements of preoperative planning, surgical technique, perioperative management, and prevention of complications. In this chapter, we will outline evidence-based features required for the successful development and execution of an outpatient UKA program. Our goal is to provide surgeons the foundational knowledge required for establishing and performing outpatient joint replacement in their own practice.
