Abstract

An application study of the large diameter, thin-wall bearing on the long-life space-borne filter wheel is presented in this chapter. A precise bearing mounting method was introduced to provide the sufficient stiffness and the adequate operating accuracy. A flexure bearing axial preload method was optimized to ensure the on-orbit working life circle. A simulated environmental life test under vacuum was processed to verify the performance of the filter wheel. The Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Energy Dispersion Spectrum (EDS) observations were performed to analyze the abrasion of the raceway of the thin-wall bearing, and a friction torque test and analysis was given. The test result shows that the filter wheel meets the 2.1 × 105 on-orbit life circles requirement with the application of sputtered MoS2 lubricant thin-wall bearing. The application method of the large diameter, thin-wall bearing presents the engineering solution references for the long-life space filter wheel design.
