Abstract
A 30-year-old woman, G5P3013, with known severe pulmonary hypertension is admitted to Labor & Delivery at 38 + 4/7 weeks estimated gestational age (EGA) because of the onset of uterine contractions. The patient is well known to the Obstetrics, Pulmonary Medicine, Anesthesia, and Nursing services (L-1). She has three living children and her first two deliveries at ages 20 and 22 were uncomplicated. She delivered her third child at age 26 and by that time carried the diagnosis of severe idiopathic pulmonary hypertension (L-2). She had a vacuum-assisted delivery at that time to minimize her need for exertion, but further details of that delivery are unavailable (L-3).
