Abstract
Atelectasis is defined, as are the four common mechanisms. Different types of focal, lobar, and global atelectasis are discussed. Salient radiographic and cross-sectional imaging features are discussed. The differential diagnoses for each of the common mechanisms are discussed, including their specific imaging features and implications.
