Abstract
In recent years, the quality of surface water in the city of Fez has deteriorated due to intensive human activities. This can lead to waterborne diseases, such as typhoid fever, viral hepatitis, gastroenteritis, dysentery, to name but a few. The spatiotemporal monitoring of the different parameters that define the quality of the water with regard to 2017 shows that the downstream of Oued Fez and the existing sites in its north-east in the per urban zone Ain Kansara are the most highly polluted. They are characterized by a chronic pollution of organic and phosphoric origin. The mapping of the spatial distribution of the incidence of viral hepatitis infection at the level of the various districts of the city of Fez during the same year illustrates that the district with the highest incidence rate of this disease is Ain Kadouss with more than 80%. This study has revealed the need for constant monitoring in places where environmental degradation is caused by sewage discharges that come from the city of Fez; thus, it is likely to cause waterborne diseases to humans.
