Abstract

Bioinsecticide based on entomopathogenic fungi faces a series of challenges in relation to the isolates research due to aspects related to production, automation, formulation, legislation, and trading systems. Bioinsecticide manufacturers in Brazil are small and have little capital to invest in research, which delays the development of new products on a yearly basis. Multinationals have been paying attention to bioinsecticides in the last years. Despite these difficulties, pest microbial control is one of the research fields that have grown the most in entomology studies, and it influences the agricultural and industrial production sectors. There are bioinsecticides in Brazil based on entomopathogenic fungi of species Beauveria bassiana Vuill., Metarhizium anisopliae (Metchnikoff) Sorokin, and Isaria fumosorosea Wize, which have been produced in large scale. This chapter aims at presenting the most commonly used techniques of entomopathogenic fungi production in Latin America.
