Headache in Children and Adolescents: A Broader Approach Is Needed than in Adults

Abstract

Headache-attributed burden among children and adolescents is less well estimated than in adults, but nonetheless undoubtedly high. Common among these age groups are mild headaches lasting less than 1 h, which do not conform to the diagnostic criteria for migraine or tension-type headache. A broader approach must recognize these as a headache type (undifferentiated headache [UdH]); otherwise the account of headache among children and adolescents will be very incomplete. This chapter describes the features and importance of UdH.
