A Brief Note on Looking Forward

Transmediating the Whedonverse(s)

Abstract

Exploring the complexity of transmediality represented in the Whedonverse(s) while it actively expands seems, and perhaps is, Sisyphean. However, we believe scholars will continue to look at these storyworlds because of their vitality and possibility. The connectivity of the Whedonverse(s) remains a constant presence in conversation—both formally in presentations, roundtables, and publications, and informally among friends and fans. Even when at the peripheral of scholarly focus, there is a tacit understanding that transmedial storytelling is part of the narrative nature grounding the ‘verse(s). Such assumption seems integral to both sustainable transmediality and to new iterations of “fandom.”
