Abstract
The pre-photographic representation of medicine set the scientific and aesthetic standards for the revolutionary changes that occurred with the discovery of photography. Many of the technical, graphic, aesthetic, and scientific concepts found in today’s scientific photography came from these representational ancestors. The following chapters will introduce the reader into the fascinating history of medical iconography. Such introduction will help the reader understand where first photographic conventions came from and the methods of reproductions that preceded the photographic mechanism of replication.
