Designing a Self-regulated Online Learning Course Using Innovative Methods: A Case Study

Abstract

Students from Gen Z ask for being independent as well as guided by the adults in their learning experience, especially when learning is aimed at making better future career and development choices. Self-regulated online learning can effectively answer this need. While its definition, advantages and phases have been debated in the literature, self-regulated online learning still lacks an in-depth analysis. In this paper, we adopt an action research approach to provide a design framework for an online course specifically oriented at supporting students in their job-related choices. From a theoretical point of view, we use a framework based on the Pintrich’s self-regulated learning approach. From a practice point of view, we provide a set of recommendations to design effective self-regulated online learning experiences.
