A Linguistic System of Defining and Controlling Project Success

Abstract

In the paper, the problem of defining and influencing project success is discussed. Projects success is presented as a feature which is built step-by-step through different project phases, where the success of one project phase may influence the success of another one. Overall project success is then defined by individual project stakeholders. It is proposed to include terminated projects, with relevant information about their features, phase successes and influences among phases, in a database, which would be used to evaluate and possibly increase chances for success of similar projects whose implementation is considered for the future. The success of individual phases and influences among phases are proposed to be evaluated by experts using linguistic terms, defined as fuzzy sets.
