Abstract

For generations, our ancestors sat by the fire at night discussing the events of the day and recalling stories and legends. To sit by the fire was an honor reserved for the tribal elders, the wise men, the chiefs, and shamans. The younger members of the tribe sat or stood behind their elders and listened and learned. Their guidance was rarely sought (Leider and Shapiro 2014).
