Abstract
In this chapter, various approaches, methods and tools developed by the author to improve the usage of current web search engines and the search for text documents on mobile devices will be presented. These tools are regarded as ‘local librarians’ as they either solely work on the user’s local computer/mobile device or make use of locally displayed web contents, have acces to certain user documents (which the user granted the tools access to), observe the user when interacting with them and generate query and result suggestions and refinements.
