Fractures of the Elbow

Abstract

A 37-year-old right-hand dominant man sustained an injury to his left elbow in a physical altercation when he fell onto his left forearm, landing on a coffee table. He noted immediate onset of elbow pain and deformity, diffuse swelling, pain over his proximal ulna, and inability to range his elbow. Radiographs showed a proximal ulnar shaft fracture with anterior dislocation of the radial head. He was diagnosed with a Bado I Monteggia fracture-dislocation and underwent open reduction and internal fixation of the ulnar shaft.
