Abstract

Laser ablation (LA) has been reported to be a minimally invasive and extremely well-tolerated procedure without serious complications in several anatomical structures. It has been shown that percutaneous LA is tolerable in patients in unfavorable general conditions or in patients with lesions at high-risk sites because of the use of very thin devices and precise energy application. LA guided by ultrasound and/or computed tomography through the percutaneous or endoscopic approach has been reported to be a feasible procedure and can be considered as a new weapon for retroperitoneal and peritoneal lesions, and also for abdominal pathological lymph nodes. In this chapter, the possible application of LA in the treatment of retroperitoneal and peritoneal lesions and abdominal lymph nodes will be presented and discussed.
