Introduction to Omics Approaches in Symptom Science

  • Chapter
  • First Online:

Abstract

Omics-based approaches for investigating the mechanisms of a symptom or co-occurring symptoms, as well as the mechanisms underlying a specific intervention, have increased with advances in technology. An omics-based approach holds promise for providing a targeted, and thus more effective intervention for managing symptoms. This chapter provides an overview of the various omic-based methods, along with the strengths and weaknesses of each approach, for symptom science research studies.
