Abstract
In this chapter, the basic aspects of English as a medium of instruction (EMI) are described. Also, the most relevant research papers that focus on EMI are reviewed to highlight the most important findings. Then the need of this volume is explained and, finally, the different sections and chapters included in the book are discussed. The authors present expert analysis on English as a medium of instruction from three points of view, its practice, its training and its specific uses of EMI. Through this book, readers will discover diverse perspectives and extensive discussions of issues including the role of teachers, the role of staff and the role of the government.
