    Using a newspaper as time-stamping procedure is not new. In certain kidnapping cases, to provide evidence that victims were alive at a specific point in time, a picture of them with the a newspaper was taken and sent to families.

    Gold standard refers to the Bretton Woods Agreement in 1944, when 44 nations agreed to adopt the US dollar as an official reserve currency and pegged the exchange rates for their currency to the US dollar. The agreement entailed that US currency could be converted to gold, which was cancelled by Nixon in 1971. The decoupling of the US dollar from the gold from the Federal Reserve happened in 1976, while the Bank of England decoupled the UK Pound Sterling from gold in 1973.
