Abstract
Objective measures of asthma take into account attempts to characterize the biological alterations of asthma. Lungs in older adults exhibit, in parallel, age-related, or comorbid, lung pathology and overall health status-related changes. In this chapter, subjective assessment of asthma in older adults, in conjunction with objective testing, is discussed. Characterization of common and unique aspects of objective testing in asthma as they pertain to older adults, including elucidation of specific objective tests such as spirometry, pulmonary function testing, peak flow monitoring, bronchial provocation testing, exhaled nitric oxide, and other ancillary testing for asthma, is discussed in context of older adult patients.
