Abstract
The aircraft fuel system has evolved from its basic and humble beginnings on the Wright flyer. The Wright flyer relied on a simple configuration of the fuel being gravity fed from the gas tank situated above the engine. The fuel system needs to be an early and important design consideration because of its immediate impact on the propulsion system operation coupled with its essentially linear impact on flight endurance.
