Abstract
In attempting to simplify the algorithm of TKA, we consider the femoral and tibial contributions to the gaps separately. This simple concept of tibial and femoral spaces and segments helps comprehend the interchangeable relationship between bone resection and soft tissue release and provides a rationale for patient-specific femoral rotation. As materials and methods evolve, the constraints of unnatural alignment and balance may also be removed, allowing us to move towards a process of recreating each patient’s anatomy. The algorithm may become simpler with time.
