CO2 Philic Surfactants, Switchable Amine-Based Surfactants and Wettability Alteration for EOR Applications

Surfactants for Enhanced Oil Recovery Applications

Abstract

Applications of surfactants in EOR techniques are not limited to IFT reduction mechanisms only. Recently, switchable surfactants and specially designed surfactants with the augmented structure to interact with CO2 with high efficiency to generate stable foams are also gaining interest in industries and academia alike. In addition to IFT reduction and foams, surfactants are also used in wettability alteration processes to improve oil recovery. These applications are discussed in detail in this chapter.
