Abstract
Abdominoperineal resection (APR) has been considered the operation of choice for lower rectal and anal canal tumors. First described by W. Ernest Miles in 1908 as a combined perineal and abdominal approach, abdominoperineal resection surgery has experienced many changes with the availability of minimally invasive techniques, but it follows the same key oncological principles. In this chapter, we describe robotic abdominoperineal resection with different perineal approaches (lithotomy and prone).
