Nursing Skills for Children and Young People's Mental Health

Abstract

Ann Cox discusses the important role that nurses in CAMHS have in ensuring that a meaningful approach is taken to gaining informed consent and ensuring understanding. Consent is an important area of practice within CAMHS and is implicit in every aspect of care with a child, young person or family. The skills that the nurse needs to use to gain consent from a child or young person are technical and take time to complete. The process should be innovative and creative in order to best help engage the child or young person to be involved in decision-making and consent processes to their fullest capacity.
