Abstract

Mesenchymal tumors of the cervix are less commonly seen than their counterparts in the uterine corpus. They can be divided into subgroups, including those displaying smooth muscle, endometrial stromal, nerve sheath, bone, and skeletal muscle or endothelial/vascular differentiation, those that represent secondary involvement from the corpus, and those of uncertain histogenesis. Many histotypes at this location are rare and are described only as case reports, including tumors such as alveolar soft part sarcomas, epithelioid sarcomas, fibroblastic malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors, and even osteosarcomas. Most of these tumors are also covered in more detail in the uterine mesenchymal tumor chapter.
