Abstract
There is a story about Ptolemy Soter (367–282 BC), the first king of Egypt and founder of the Alexandrian museum, who studied geometry under Euclid (~ fourth century BC). Ptolemy found the subject rather difficult and apparently asked his teacher whether there was an easier way of learning geometry.
