Abstract
In addition to educational attainment, 5 other variables are examined in this book to determine their relationship with race/Hispanic origin and all-cause mortality risk as follows:
-
BMI
-
US birthplace region
-
total years played Major League Baseball
-
player position
-
handedness.
All the variables examined in this chapter are associated with race/Hispanic origin. Overweight BMI , lower educational attainment, fewer years of Major League Baseball playing experience, and playing the pitcher position are also related to mortality risk. None of these variables impact on mortality decrements among African-Americans relative to non-Hispanic whites. Handedness is unrelated to mortality risk and will be dropped from additional analyses.
