Radiation Safety in Nuclear Medicine

Abstract

The content of this chapter includes principles of radiation protection based on cardinal rules of time, distance, and shielding. NRC regulation on posting, labeling, and sign display is described. ALARA principle is explained, and recommendations to adopt it are given. Requirements for monitoring radiation workers for radiation exposure, bioassay, and decommissioning the facility after closure are described. Conditions for reporting radiation events and accidents to the NRC or the Agreement State are spelled out. Procedure for receiving and opening radioactive packages is described.
