Abstract
Reconstruction of acquired total ear defects is a very challenging task to undergo given the complex three-dimensional architecture and cosmetic expectations of patients. Patients with an acquired absence of their ear differ from patients with congenital microtia in several ways. Although the reconstructive principles remain similar, auricular reconstruction for acquired defects differs from microtia reconstruction.
In this chapter, we will demonstrate that auricular reconstruction following trauma or ablative surgery can be performed using a porous high-density polyethylene implant covered by a healthy well-vascularized thin fascia flaps and color-matched full-thickness skin grafts.
