Abstract

The aim of this chapter is to provide you with many new and important insights into ADD/ADHD that go substantially beyond what is traditionally understood about this impairment. In addition to my discussion on an added helpful classification of ADD/ADHD, three successfully treated children will teach you how to best understand and overcome this disorder. And several others will even demonstrate that the inner-ear antihistamines may sometimes—atypically—be more effective than stimulants, and why.

Notes

  1. 1.

Why is the minimum six-symptom requirement helpful for research? you may wonder. Because it prevents diagnosing false positives—patients with concentration and distractibility symptoms due to other causes. But as a clinician, this need for quantitative diagnostic certainty creates lots of false negatives—it omits many milder ADD patients deserving of a proper diagnosis and beneficial treatment.

  2. 2.

A few non-stimulant ADD/ADHD meds should be tried when the above fail—although they have less chance of working.
